Many American Sign Language users are altering signs to adapt to small screens. For example, the traditional ASL sign for dog involves patting one’s side hip. Since this is difficult to convey over a small screen, many ASL users now prefer to sign the letters d and g twice, which also appears like snapping fingers to gain a dog’s attention.
