In June 2025 Pres. Donald Trump announced that his administration would be “phasing out” FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) after this year’s hurricane season. During a meeting in the Oval Office, he told reporters, “We want to wean off of FEMA, and we want to bring it down to the state level.” He continued by saying that disaster funds would be given directly to the states, which would bear more of the financial costs for recovery efforts.
