Steve Witkoff is a key figure in the efforts to broker a nuclear deal between the United States and Iran. Witkoff serves as U.S. Pres. Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East. In April 2025 Witkoff became involved in the Iran negotiations. During an interview on ABC’s This Week the following month, he said, “We have one very, very clear red line, and that is enrichment. We cannot allow even 1 percent of an enrichment capability.” Although Iran publicly rejected that requirement, the talks continued.
