The last major military parade in the United States—and the largest military celebration since the end of World War II—took place in Washington, D.C., on June 18, 1991. Called the National Victory Celebration, the parade commemorated the end of the Persian Gulf War and honored the coalition forces of Operation Desert Storm. The parade cost $12 million and featured flyovers by B-2 bombers (more commonly known as stealth bombers), the parading of Patriot missiles and tanks, and the participation of thousands of troops led by Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf.
