The Pandavas are the five sons of Pandu in Hindu legend. Central to the Mahabharata, they defeated their cousins, the Kauravas, in a great war. The parentage of the five Pandavas is nominally attributed to Pandu. Actually, they were born to his wives, Kunti and Madri, by a boon that allowed the two women to summon a Hindu deity of their choice for the purpose of procreation.
