Bob Menendez is a politician from New Jersey, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1993−2006) and the U.S. Senate (2006−24). In 2015 he was indicted on federal corruption charges that he allegedly failed to report numerous gifts from a political donor on whose behalf he interceded with various government agencies. His 2017 trial ended in a mistrial. In 2023 Menendez was federally indicted on bribery charges alleging that the senator used his position to secretly benefit the Egyptian government. He was found guilty in 2024 and later sentenced to 11 years in prison.
