N.T. Rama Rao (popularly called NTR) was an Indian actor and politician who served as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh for three terms (1983–84, 1984–89, and 1994–95). He founded the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982 and became the first chief minister of the state who did not belong to the Indian National Congress (Congress Party).
