Denisovans were a group of archaic humans who emerged about 370,000 years ago in Eurasia and spread throughout eastern and southern Asia and parts of Melanesia before disappearing after about 30,000 years ago. How the Denisovans fit into genus Homo remains unclear, with some scientists classifying the group as its own species and others classifying it a subspecies within Homo.
