Christine Kerr was born in England and received her PhD from the University of Sussex. She has taught English literature in Europe, Africa, and Asia and is a faculty member at Champlain College in Montreal. She is also a contributor to 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die (2012), where an earlier version of this Britannica entry first appeared.
