Kamala Harris took office on January 20, 2021, as vice president of the United States in the Democratic administration of Pres. Joe Biden. Before taking office, Harris represented California in the U.S. Senate (2017–21); she was the first Indian American to serve as a U.S. senator as well as the second Black American woman. Harris was previously California's attorney general (2011–17).
