From 1790 to 1800 Philadelphia was the capital of the U.S. George Washington and later John Adams lived in a modest home called President’s House about a block away from Congress. During the Revolutionary War in 1778 Benedict Arnold had lived in and began his treasonous correspondence with the British in the same house.
