From 1948 to 1960 members of the Malayan National Liberation Army attacked British colonial holdings in Southeast Asia, such as valuable rubber factories and mines, during fighting dubbed the “Malayan Emergency.” British authorities never officially described the fighting as a war, as that would allow insurance agencies to deny coverage of damaged property.
