A Mafia boss is called “boss” or “don.” In addition, some bosses are referred to as “godfather,” thanks, in part, to the popularity of Francis Ford Coppola’s movies about the fictional Corleone family. Each don has an underboss, who functions as a vice president or deputy director, and a consigliere, or counselor, who has considerable power and influence. Below the underboss are the caporegime, or lieutenants, who supervise squads of soldiers.
