The Bajau people of the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia primarily make their living from underwater activities such as spear fishing or collecting coral for jewelry. A study suggests they have evolved spleens that are 50 percent larger than average. Spleens carry a surplus of oxygenated red blood cells; larger ones allow the Bajau people to stay underwater longer.
